CVCB prepares bid for next advertising congress By Jessica B. Natad
AS early as now, the Cebu Visitors and Convention Bureau (CVCB) has started planning out its bid for the Advertising Congress (Adcon) next year.
CVCB chairman Patrick Gregorio said the private sector-led tourism marketing organization “will do its best” to bring the Adcon again to Cebu in November next year.
“We received words that the Adcon organizers were not so satisfied with Baguio. This time, CVCB will think of ways to persuade the organizers to hold the Adcon back in Cebu,” he said during CVCB’s general membership meeting at Richmond Plaza Hotel last week.
The Adcon was held in Baguio last year. Cebu was able to host two consecutive congresses in 1999 and 2001. The event is held once every two years.
Offer
Last year, in its effort to bring the Adcon 2003 to Cebu, CVCB offered Adcon chairman Gabby Lopez an “offer difficult to resist,” which included giving the first 500 Adcon delegates a free overnight stay in Cebu.
This year, one of CVCB’s selling points will be the MTV Queen City Run 2005, Gregorio said.
He said CVCB’s annual MTV Queen City Run, which attracted 4,000 local and foreign participants last year, will serve as the culmination activity of the Adcon 2005.
Gregorio said MTV Asia has already committed itself to again be CVCB’s partner in the annual event. MTV Asia helped CVCB market the Queen City Run in the international scene.
Other CVCB projects in the pipeline this year include the 1st Asia Pacific Islands Travel Mart, which incorporates the 3rd Visayas Travel and Tour Fair, on Feb. 20-22 at the trade hall of SM City Cebu; the Mr. And Miss Universe International Body Building Championship 2004 on Dec. 4 and 5, the Sports Expo tentatively scheduled on April 22-24 and the Cebu Grand Overrun Sale.
Gregorio said CVCB aims to organize six major events every year.
