Krua Thai sells Cebu furniture
By Jessica B. Natad

THE demand for Cebu-made furniture in Thailand has prompted Cebu-based Krua Thai Inc. to open a showroom for the product in Thailand.

Krua Thai president Anthony Ballreich said the company’s Thailand-based sister-company, Thaiphil Intertrade Co. Ltd., is now marketing and distributing export-quality furniture manufactured by six Cebu-based manufacturing companies, including Gibon Furniture.

Krua Thai’s first venture in Cebu was in the restaurant business. However, it saw the opportunity to sell furniture after it partnered with Gibon in the Bangkok International Fashion Fair 2003.

“We wanted to test the Thailand market... and we saw the positive response,” he told a press conference at Krua Thai Restaurant-SM City Cebu Wednesday.

Ballreich said Thaiphil’s Deco Classic furniture gallery, located in Bangkok, Thailand, has been doing well since it opened late last year.

He said Krua Thai does not sell the furniture displayed in the gallery.

“We place the orders of the customers with the furniture manufacturer of the model or furniture they want. Sometimes, if they have their own specifications, we also inform the manufacturer.”
