Anna Fegi: ooking ‘Straight Ahead’

Anna Fegi has come a long way since her Smokey Mountain days. With the release of her sophomore album Straight Ahead, Fegi literally is going to the straight path as she lets go of the curly hair, which has been her trademark for years, for a shiny straight hair, and career wise as she explores new dimensions vocally.

Straight Ahead encompasses Anna Fegi’s growth as a singer. With her constant exposure in performing in various concerts, corporate shows and as a regular of the Sunday variety show Asap Mania, she is fast carving a niche as one of the country’s premier divas with her flexible vocal range. Her voice cannot be compared to other divas as she has a voice that is distinctively her own.

If in her previous album Every Step of the Way she belted out songs mostly in English like Anyone Can See and You and I, Straight Ahead is quite different. Majority of the album contains Tagalog songs with only two English songs.

Her current single Saan Ka Na Kaya Ngayon, which has been garnering a lot of airplay in radio stations lately, speaks of existing love for former flame and thinking where he is at right now. Her vocal maturity is evident in this track as she doesn’t only sing the song just for the sake of singing, but also feeling it as if she had experienced it, which should be the case. In the track Even If, Fegi teamed up with former South Border vocalist Luke Mejares.

Revival lovers will not be disappointed with Fegi’s cover version of the 80’s OPM hit What Good is That Without You and It Takes Too Long (To Learn to Live Alone).

Other highlights include the emotion filled Ang Puso Ko ay Dinggin, the potential wedding song Ikaw Lamang, Wala Ka Na and Ikaw ang Kailangan Ko.

Straight Ahead is generally a soulful and ballad-laden album that can be appreciated not only by the masa but also by other market segments with its well-written lyrics coupled with Fegi’s smooth and savvy interpretation of every song.

Catch Anna Fegi live in her “The Homecoming Concert `04” on Jan. 17, 8 p.m. at the Teatro Casino of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.
