10 houses lost in Duljo fire By Allan I. Varquez
ABOUT 20 families lost their homes when fire hit a neighborhood near the barangay hall in Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City last night.
The fire reportedly started in the kitchen of Nancy Moga. Three families lived in her house. All of them were not seen after the firemen controlled the blaze in 42 minutes.
The Bureau of Fire Protection received the alarm at 8:40 p.m.
Fire investigator Julieto Manding estimated the damage at P600,000.
No injuries or casualties were reported.
Just as the fire was controlled, the fire trucks ran out of water.
Duljo-Fatima Barangay Captain Miguel Cabatino said that when he got out of the barangay hall, he saw the flames gobbling Moga’s kitchen.
The barangay hall is about three meters away from the house.
Cabatino said Moga’s house does not have electricity or a gas stove. So, he believes firewood used in cooking started the blaze.
The families, who lived in 10 houses, will be given temporary shelter in the barangay hall, chapel and sports complex, which is near the fire scene.
The blaze was put under third alarm, so all fire stations in Cebu City responded.
Cabatino said that less than 10 minutes after the fire was reported, fire trucks from the Pahina Central Station arrived.
