Seeds flog opponents
By Jade S. Violeta

THE seeded tandems in the Guardo Men’s Open Doubles tennis tournament completed their dominance over their unseeded rivals yesterday as the event enters its semifinal round today at the Southern Islands courts.

The top-seeded tandem of Fitzgerald “Elac” Tabura and Cliff Acaso joined the two other seeded pairs in the semifinal round after defeating the upstart team of Jason Pinote and Nelson Capecenio in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, in their quarterfinal battle yesterday.

The third-seeded duo of Jun-Jun Cabrera and Dodong Gerolaga, on the other hand, completed the entry of the seeded teams into the semis after they recovered from a shocking opening-set setback to blast Angelo Suson and Arnel Mediodia, Cebu City’s Private Schools Athletic Association bets, in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, and earn themselves a slot in today’s semis.

Bo Alburo and Arvin Jurao earlier booked a spot in the semifinals after beating Arnel Palermo and Andre Villamor, 6-4, 6-1, in last Wednesday’s quarterfinal match-up.

The semifinalists are already assured of P1,000 per team, while the champions will take home P5,000, and the runners-up P3,000.
