Proposed Danao seaside park to include port, eateries
By Oscar C. Pineda

PASSING by Danao City, one notices the sea beside a park lined with trees. The place is so inviting that the concrete benches under the trees are always occupied. People call the place the "seawall."

“(Cebu Mitsumi Inc.) workers go there to picnic late in the afternoon after work,” said Roland Perez, Danao City Human resource management officer.

Some policemen prefer to stay in the seaside park while manning their station right across, and enjoy the view and the cool breeze.

But now, the view is blocked by a seven-foot wall of galvanized sheets, indicating a construction going on inside. The government is reclaiming a 1.5-hectare area adjacent to the seawall for the Danao City Fish Landing Complex project. When completed, the complex will house a boat terminal for fishermen, cold storage facility, fish landing facility and market.

Construction is set at 18 months with the project cost placed at P70 million.

Will this spell the end of Danao's seawall? Danao City Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III said no. The project will even make the area more attractive to promenaders.

First, the project will extend the present boulevard out to sea for a more spacious park. Second, trees will be planted to provide shades to seafood restaurants and fast food joints beside the fish port. With all these plans, Durano said the cost now reaches P84 million.
