Champions go for 2-peat against tougher entries By Jade S. Violeta
CEBU City’s hottest female track star, University of Cebu’s Cristy Sevilleno, is slated for a tough title defense when the 2004 Tri-City Marathon hits the streets on Feb. 22.
Sevilleno is the fastest lady marathoner in Cebu having proven herself when she won the titles in the 10-kilometer 2003 Don Sergio Osmeña Sr. Memorial Marathon, Tri-City Marathon 2003, 2003 3rd dyAB Anniversary Run, 2003 4th Osaka-Guardo Anniversary 10K Run and the 27th Milo National marathon Visayas elimination.
She snared the Tri City crown last year alongside Allan Ballester of the RP Team, the 2003 Men’s Open ruler, who is also expecting a testing title defense against a tougher field.
Among those ready to provide a stiff challenge for the champions are former Olympics campaigner Roy Vence, Crisanto Canillo, Bowen Montecillo, Roger Sunan-oy, Rogelio Reli, Davao City’s Stella Diaz and Cagayan De Oro’s Aileen Tolentino. Also expected to join next month’s race, which will hand out a total of P197,300 in prizes, include Nogie Biagan, Donato Sabino, Cristituto Cañete and Raymundo Largo.
The six-category event is organized by the Marathon Organizers of the Philippines and Guardo Sports, and backed by the Cebu City Sports Commission, Office of the Mayor, Councilor Sylvan Jakosalem, and Cebu City Sports Center manager Ricky Ballesteros.
