Rocky pounds Gadian
By Rommel C. Manlosa

THOUGH young and inexperienced, Rocky Fuentes’ brutal punches and exceptional skills were a nightmare for Rober Gadian as the fast-rising Cebuano knockout sensation walked off with a fourth-round technical knockout in the main event of SGG Sports Promotions’ Sinulog Boxing “The Best of the New Breed” at the Gasiano Country Mall car park Sunday night.

Fuentes proved to be the meaner fighter in the eight-round encounter between two ring killers as his lethal blows forced Gadian to give up six seconds into the fourth round.

Hit by powerful hooks and straights on the head in the early rounds, Gadian started to lose wind.

But cautious of what the Zamboanga del Norte-based fighter could inflict, Fuentes went to the body of the shorter but heavier Gadian.

Gadian wore 10-ounce gloves after failing to make the 106-pound limit.

The victory was Fuentes’ fifth, with four by knockout, while Gadian dropped to a 19-8-1 win-loss-draw record.

Boholano Reynaldo Bautista outclassed his veteran opponent, Rodel “Kid” Orais, to win by unanimous decision after 10 rounds.

Bautista inflicted damage early on the left eye of Orais and continued to pound the Manila-based fighter with powerful hooks and straights.

Bautista knocked down Orais with a straight to the body, but the latter managed to beat the count.

Orais landed big shots to Bautista’s face in the seventh round, but Bautista came back to dominate the fight until the final bell.

Another ALA boy, Reynald Tribo, ended the misery of Elden de la Cruz in 26 seconds of the fourth with a TKO in their scheduled 10-round contest.

Debuting ALA Boys Cesar Amonsot and Rollen del Castillo also won theirfights. Amonsot scored a TKO in 2:41 of the fifth round over Rey Lumoljo in the featherweight bout, while del Castillo took down Renante Rondina 24 seconds into round No.2, the shortest fight of the night.

Meanwhile, late substitute Ryan del Prado scored a knockout in 43 seconds of the sixth round over Philip Daniel Mansing of Ozamis City.

The fight between Reyman Salim and Daniel Diolan was cancelled after the latter was found unfit to fight the ALA Boy.

Diolan was diagnosed to have an enlargement of the left atrium.
