Borromeo leads Class ’91 over ’70s-A

JUAN Borromeo Jr. scattered a career-high 32 points to lead Young Builders ’91 in whacking Villa Shipping ‘70s-A, 70-62, in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) 6th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the City Sports Club-Cebu Gym.
Borromeo erased his previous record of 30 points set on April 12 last year, becoming a one-man demolition team for Class ’91 with an all-around performance as he also hauled down 12 rebounds, seven plucked at the offensive board, while issuing six assists.
With the help of Tommy Yu, who finished with 17 points, John Joel Lim and Kevin Co, who contributed 10 points each, the five-man and coach-less Class ’91 ruled the 40-minute game by ironically using speed and quickness against the 15-man opposition.
Tony Ong topped Class ‘70s-A with 18 points, while Wison de los Reyes added 10 for the losing squad.
Earlier, Wendell Sia dropped a stunning 24-point, 20-rebound show and Ronaldo Tochip finished with 14 points on top of five rebounds and three assists to lead Maxxis Tires ’96-B eke out a 69-67 pulsating victory over Robinson Industries ’99-B in the opening game.
After a 16-all deadlock at the end of the first period, the game saw the lead change hands several times before the score settled on Class ’96-B’s side in the final canto.
