Ma tries suicide, hurts son instead
By Ramon Jaluag

A 27-YEAR-OLD mother from Lawaan 2, Talisay City is now in jail after she accidentally shot her four-year-old son in the leg as she and her husband grappled for a gun last Wednesday.

Katrina Zamora, according to her husband Feliciano, tried to shoot herself with the use of a paltik 357 but instead hit their child Arjay who was standing near them inside their house.
The bullet went through Arjay’s left leg.

After the shooting, Feliciano, a laborer, brought his son to the hospital for treatment while Katrina gave herself up to the policemen who went to their house near the entrance of Camella Homes.

The firearm, though, was not recovered. After a one-day stay at the hospital, the child was discharged.

Carrying Arjay in his arms, Feliciano went to the police station yesterday to plead that no criminal charges be filed against his wife.

He said Katrina was despondent due to her deteriorating health, that’s why she tried killing herself.

Feliciano said they kept a gun in the house for self-defense because some neighbors are reportedly hostile to them.

His wife, according to Feliciano, has a heart ailment and needs maintenance medicine, but since the New Year he had no extra money for this.

His earnings from caroling during the holidays were not enough, Feli-ciano added.

Katrina was not around yesterday when Feliciano came.

She was taken to the PNP Laboratory for a paraffin test.

Charges are being readied against her.
