Mabolo cop faces suspension By Minerva B. Gerodias
SUSPENSION for 15 days and forfeiture of all allowances are being recommended for the Mabolo policeman whom Mandaue City policemen arrested for allegedly going wild inside a bar.
Mabolo Police Station Chief Leodegardo Acebedo concluded his investigation report yesterday on SPO2 Virgilio Espinosa, although the recommendation has yet to be concurred by Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director Cecil Ezra Sandalo.
Sandalo, being the city director, may agree with Acebedo’s recommendation but he can also increase or slash the number of days of suspension.
Fight
Espinosa was arrested Sunday night in Canduman, Mandaue City after he allegedly fought with one Elmer Jayme inside the bar.
Espinosa allegedly poked a gun at Jayme and then fired a shot, which sent other customers in panic. This prompted the bar owner to call the police for assistance.
Espinosa was disarmed and brought to the police station.
Probe
During Acebedo’s investigation, Espinosa admitted that he argued with Jayme but denied poking and firing his gun.
Espinosa said the empty shells found in his firearm were from the practice firing that he had in Lapu-lapu City last Saturday.
Espinosa’s arrest also triggered another investigation against SPO2 Mario Gako of the Canduman police.
Gako, who is reportedly Espinosa’s close friend, allegedly ordered his release without informing Canduman Police Chief Nicandro Seno.
