Batches ’85,91’ win in Cecaba
By Rommel C. Manlosa

NEO-NEO Grill/La Nueva Supermart backed-Class ‘85 employed tough defense to limit Gregoria’s Curtains and Trims Haus ‘83 to just six points in the final quarter to pick its second win, 57-52, even as Young Builders ’91 rode on the 26-point performance of Juan Borromeo Jr. to whip Tsibog ’93, 97-78, in Cecaba’s 6th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the City Sports Club-Cebu Gym.

Despite the absence of its starting guard, Cesar Ting, and Esteban Ku, Class ’83 displayed determination with Stephen Tan and Edwin Lim leading the charge to erect a seven-point lead, 48-41, at the end of the third quarter.

However, things went awry for Class ’83 when Lim committed his fifth and final foul midway in the game that allowed inside operator Edwin Kaw and Joel Chan to lead Class ’85 to turn the game around with a 16-6 burst.

Chan topped Class ‘85 with 18 points, Kaw added 14 and Wilson Yu finished with 10 while Tan and Lim led Class ’83’s scorers with 17 and 12 points, respectively.

Earlier, Tommy Yu supported Borromeo’s efforts with 18 points to complete a fitting welcome for the return of Class ‘91’s prized center Peter de la Torre, who readily made his presence felt by finishing with 17 markers.

Class 1991 (97) – Borromeo 26, T. Yu 18, De la Torre 17, E. Go 12, Co 9, W. Yu 8, C. Go 5, Lim 2. Class 1993 (78) – W. Tan 25, Tiu 17, Tan 11, Ng 11, Lauron 5, Ong 4, Bejer 3,Ting2.
