Swat seizes sacks of dynamite By Mia E. Abellana
ABANDONED explosives from the Atlas Consolidated Mining and Development Corp. (AC MDC) were recovered by the Special Weapons and Tactics (Swat) team in Barangay Sinsin, Cebu City late Tuesday night.
Sinsin Barangay Captain Aurelio Laspoņa called for assistance after seeing the explosive magazine already opened.
Before the carbon mines in Sinsin closed in the early 1990s, ACMDC had the explosive magazine padlocked so that the residents would not touch the leftover explosives.
The locks to the storeroom were forcibly destroyed when Laspoņa found the room of explosives.
What alarmed Laspoņa was that the magazine was now opened and that anybody could have access to the explosives.
He suspected that some intruders may have taken some of the explosives and moved them around.
Four sacks of commercial dynamite, 10 blasting caps and some safety fuse were found.
According to Swat chief, Senior Insp. Arnel Banzon, the blasting caps should not be stored in the same room as the dynamite.
Even if these have been stored for a long time, Banzon said these would still explode and pose danger to the residents.

Security and Service Group (SSG) Chief Her-man Lungayan told reporters that Laspoņa was also worried that youngsters in Sinsin were now using the room to sniff shabu.
They found burnt tin foil all over the floor, which sparked Laspoņas fears that the storeroom was secretly being used as a drug den.
With shabu users lighting disposable lighters, police feared that they would accidentally ignite a flame and cause an explosion.
Sinsin is a mountain barangay at the border of Cebu and Toledo City.
Banzon said they were called for assistance in the afternoon, but they arrived at past 9 p.m. because they had to pass the Manipis road in Talisay.
The sacks of explosives were brought to the Swat office.
