Here and there By Nelia G. Neri Eve
TO START the year on the right note Philippine Airlines gathered media friends for lunch at Laguna Garden Cafe to bare facts and figures, and clear the air with regards to common concerns and perceptions regarding the country’s flag carrier.
PAL president and chief operating officer Avelino Zapanta announced that even if PAL took a loss for the year 2003, it is on track with its rehabilitation program and continues to survive the crisis that has hit the airline industry these past years (9/11, SARS, Iraq war, etc.). He is optimistic that the losses will be reduced drastically starting the first quarter of this year.
On a brighter note, PAL will be flying to Las Vegas, Nevada starting March, and looking into future flights to Europe when deemed feasible.
With the travel season just around the corner, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, Globus and Cosmos tours gathered Cebu’s travel agents to give updates on their 2004 products. Venue was the Del Sol Room of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel with Baron Travel-Cebu’s Marisol Barria as chief coordinator. Very much around were general manager-Leisure Products Wally Cervantes and sales and marketing manager Samuel Manalo Jr. of Arpan Air Inc., the international representative for the Philippines of Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises.
Given honor as top producers during the program were Aida Uy of Cebu Fortune Travel and Elizabeth Reyes of Land and Sky Travel. Yes, these two ladies are achievers in the travel industry with the tour packages, cruises and pilgrimages they have organized.

Ayala Land Sales, Inc. is going full blast with its drive to acquaint and interest the Cebuanos in the new Ayala projects around Metro Manila...Bonifacio Ridge in Bonifacio Global City, The Residences and The Columns in Makati, Montgomery Place in Quezon City, and other developments in the nearby provinces.
The first three are high-rise, high-end condominiums while Montgomery Place is a community of townhouses along the genteel lines of the American South. The out-of-town projects are residential enclaves.
Manager David Rafael of Ayala Land Sales came to town and made a brief presentation during a dinner affair at the Cebu City Marriott Hotel organized by Raul “Rolly” Honrado who is property associate in Cebu. Dave gave an interesting talk on “How To Win in Today’s Real Estate Game” and very convincingly conveyed to the guests the pluses of Ayala’s new projects. Call Rolly for more info, cell no. 0917-834-4347 or tel. no. 346-8910.
The Mary Immaculate Learning Center, Inc. recently presented “Helen of Troy,” at SM Cinema 1 with multi-awarded playwright/director Al Evangelio on top of the cultural performance. Kudos to the cast and crew, the supportive parents headed by Dr. Renette Ligaray (chairman of the Parents’Circle), and the school management led by director/principal Dr. Montana Phua, who gave their all for the project.
