Pure Foods vs. Coke in Cebu Coliseum today

EXPLOSIVE import Lenny Cooke of Purefoods TJ Hotdogs, former Washington University star Mark Sanford of Coca Cola Tigers, along with sensational rookies and veteran players will try to blend their game in a pre-season tune-up match today at the Cebu Coliseum at 5:30 p.m.

The 6-foot-6 Cooke, described by sports scribes as a “super import,” will display the moves that gave him a 42-point and 17-rebound average during the PBA Reinforced Conference last year.

Cooke will try to outhustle the 6-foot-9, 216-pound Sanford, the 1997 NBA Draft 31st overall pick who will play his first PBA game in the Philippines before a Cebuano crowd.

Not much is mentioned on the ability of Sanford, who was a power forward at Washington University before he was drafted by the Miami Heat and was later traded to the New Jersey Nets.

However, the 27-year-old Sanford is expected to be loaded with an array of arsenal, which earned him the admiration of Coke coach Chot Reyes.

Meanwhile, after outwitting other competitors in the recently concluded PBL Platinum Cup, Conference and Finals MVP Peter June Simon, who steered Fash Liquid Detergent Powers to a dramatic 3-2 win over title-favorite Welcoat Paints, will try to blend his game with fellow rookies James Carlo Yap, Ervin Sotto and Paul Artadi in trying to re-establish the dominance of Purefoods in the league.

Alvin Patrimonio will be an interesting watch as the four-time MVP teams up with new acquisition Jun Limpot in defending the Hotdogs frontcourt along with Richard Yee, Kerby Reymundo and Rey Evangelista.

Tickets are already available at Cebu Coliseum gate and at the M. Lhuillier Pawnshop-Colon. Ticket prizes are P600, P350, P200, P50. The game is sponsored by M. Lhuillier Pawnshop and Cebu Pacific. RCM
