It’s the week of red hearts and gorgeous roses, true love and giddy romance. Yes, this lovely, loving feeling will have its peak on Saturday, Valentine’s Day!
Meanwhile, today is special in a different way because it is the feast day of the Our Lady of Lourdes. She appeared to Bernadette Soubirous in a little town by the Pyrenees mountains in France hundreds of years ago but she continues to have her presence felt by the miracles bestowed through her intercession.

What’s up on the day dedicated to love and lovers? Hotels and restaurants are trying to outdo each other with Valentine Specials.
For Montebello Villa Hotel, Feb. 14 is doubly special because it is also the hotel’s 32nd anniversary. There’s the traditional candlelight dinner and dancing affair at the Celebrity Ballroom dubbed “In the Mood for Love” with lots of raffle prizes and surprises thrown in. They have also come up with a special Valentine room package. Check it out.

Cafe Uno of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel celebrates Valentine’s week with the Best of France Valentine’s Buffet. Over at La Gondola, a set menu for Valentine’s dinner is the special treat. The hotel’s sweet shop, Madeleine, offers an array of exquisite chocolates in lovely praline boxes.
Each chocolate comes with a love note with such messages as ....Take me, I’m yours..... Love simply means you.... Can you be mine forever?....You mean the world to me... and the like. Take your pick. And don’t forget the Lani Misalucha show on Feb. 14 at the Pacific Ballroom.

Dainty little invitations in delicate pink were sent out for the christening of Andrea Antoinette Garcia, the latest dividend of GSIS president Winston Garcia and lady architect Chabeng G. The ceremony was held at the Seminario Mayor de San Carlos chapel in Mabolo with Rev. Fr. John Jonah Orat, Rev. Fr. Rolando Manayon, Rev. Fr. Virgelio Paras, Jr. and Rev. Fr. Dino Ariola as officiating priests.
Baptismal sponsors included Atty. Roy Joseph Rafols and Ms. Marian Leila Brian; Mr. Ramon Abad and Ms. Leonora Vasquez de Jesus; Mr. Ethraim Genuino and Ms. Arlene Canilao-Arce.
The dinner reception was held at the Northtown Homes Clubhouse in Talamban. Among the guests were GSIS officers who came from Manila, relatives and friends.
