Bantigue triumphs in main event of Wakee boxfest By Rommel C. Manlosa
LOUIE Bantigue hung tough against the wily game of Edwin Ubatay to score a unanimous decision win in the main event of the Rex “Wakee” Salud boxing promotion “Enkwentro sa Villaba” Monday night at the Villaba Gym in Villaba, Leyte.
Bantigue’s win in the card also supported by Mayor Faustino Tumamak, Gov. Remedios Petilla and SB Member Bonifacio Meracap Jr. kept his unbeaten streak as a professional boxer.
The former amateur standout, however, did not escape unhurt as Ubatay was able to give the youthful Mandaue City fighter a good fight.
Ringside judges saw the fight 96-94, 98-93 and 98-95 all in favor of Bantigue, who picked his first victory as a 10-round fighter.
Also scoring a win was Roland Econas, who won by technical decision over Bobby Rabanos in their six-round encounter. The fight came to a halt at the 2:35 mark of the fifth round after Econas suffered a deep cut on his right eye.
JR Sollano also won by majority decision over Julius Daguman after four rounds, and Max Maturan escaped with a split decision victory over Gabby San Agustin in their four-round encounter.
