Friendship Games, Batang Pinoy merger tackled in Cebu gab By Christian Ben Rodriguez
THE Philippine Sports Commission will hold its Visayas Wide Technical Assembly on March 26 in Cebu to tackle the issue of integrating the Batang Pinoy program with the Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao Friendship Games this year.
According to PSC executive assistant Ariel Paredes, cost cutting to make yearly grassroots program affordable to all the Local Government Units will be the thrust of integrating both events.
He added that the Visayas-wide assembly will gather top officials from the LGUs and the Department of Education from Regions 6, 7 and 8 for a unified stand on implementing the merger. Luzon concluded its assembly last Feb. 6.
“We know that the PSC, LGUs and DepEd do not have much money to stage two sports programs for this year, that is why we will propose the integration of the Batang Pinoy and Friendship Games to make it affordable,” Paredes said.
The Batang Pinoy caters to the 12-Under division, while the Friendship Games will have the 13-16 years old and the open divisions.
