PBL vets join Fash
By Rommel C. Manlosa

DEFENDING champions Fash Liquid Laundry Detergent enlisted the services of veterans Patrick Benedecto and Allan Salansang in its title-retention bid as the 2004 Cebu Basketball Federation (CBF) President’s Cup open doors on Feb. 15 at the Cebu Coliseum.

The former MBA stars Salansang and Benedicto were a vital force when Fash, then known as Dazz Dishwashing Liquid, swept Cebuana Lhuillier Pawnbrokers in the best-of-three championship series last season. Both were also a huge factor when Fash won the recently concluded PBL Platinum Cup over the powerhouse Welcoat Paint Masters in Game 5.

Fash will try to defend its title against three other teams, which are also fortifying their forts. Helping Benedicto and Salansang are Fash regulars lead by team skipper Leodi Garcia, sensational Reed Friar Juntilla and top gunner Marvin Tundag, who will form coach Jun Noel’s deadly five.

Early favorites and back-to-back Summer League champions Skygo Motorcycle Riders also fortified its line-up following the inclusion of veteran power forward Gabriel Maloloy-on, Jay-R Pepito and Ariel Mepaña.

Maloloy-on will provide extra muscle to the Riders, Mepaña will add more ceiling and Pepito could spark the backcourt when needed.

The Riders will parade its reliable veterans in starting point guards Reggie Licanda and explosive Jerry Cavan, the unstoppable Joseph Ronald Quiñahan, do-it-all Neil Rañeses and sparkplugs Mark Ababon, Ronaldo Bucao, Jayford Rodriguez and the high-flying Morsie Akad.
