SRP football pitch approved
By Christian Ben Rodriguez

LOCAL and national tournaments will hit the South Reclamation Project (SRP) soon after Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña approved a portion of the SRP for an international-standard football field.

Cebu City Sports Commission head Jonathan Guardo announced the development yesterday after meeting with Osmeña, who approved for the field construction last Tuesday.

“This is a good development for football as the field at the Cebu City Sports Center is over used and needs repair,” Guardo said. “The lack of venue prompted Osmeña to build a field at the SRP.”

The plan to construct a football field at the SRP was first brought to Guardo’s attention by the mayor last year after the revitalization of local football through the efforts of new Cebu Football Association (CebuFA) president Jonathan Maximo.

With the construction of the new football field, the CebuFA will have its own venue for its sanctioned tournaments, addressing the perennial problem of lack of venue.

Guardo, the CCSC and CebuFA will conduct an ocular inspection on the SRP to locate the best site.

The construction is expected to commence midyear as the CCSC ties up with CebuFA for various activities focusing on the grassroots level.
