Boy, 12, injured in crossfire
By Minerva B. Gerodias

A 12-YEAR-OLD boy was wounded by a stray bullet during the shootout between a policeman and his neighbors Tuesday night in Basak-Pardo, Cebu City.

Loreto Maravillas reported to the Pardo police that his son Norman, a special child, was wounded in his left arm after they heard successive gunfire.

The bullet pierced the wall and hit Norman.

They recovered a slug inside their house in Sitio Laguna, Basak-Pardo.
Loreto believes the slug, apparently from a 9 mm pistol, came from the firearm of PO1 Edward Librando.

Librando used a 9 mm during his confrontation with brothers Warren and Rey Ocañada.

Waylaid

Meanwhile, Librando told police that brothers Warren and Rey waylaid him Monday night while he was on his way home after buying feeds for his fighting cocks.

Librando said it was Warren who shot him first with a revolver but missed.

He rolled to the ground to avoid the shots and when he tried to stand to return fire,
Warren’s brother Rey allegedly stabbed him, but he (Librando) dodged the attack.
Librando pushed Rey and tried to subdue him, but the policeman got stabbed in his left forearm.

Librando shot Warren, then Rey who tried to attack him again using a dagger.
Warren died from gunshot wounds in his chest and back, while Rey sustained wounds in his left thigh and buttock.

Librando took a Kaoshioung bus in going to Miller Hospital.

Plaints

The policeman, who remains in the hospital, is filing direct assault complaints against Rey.

Librando and the Ocañada family have an old grudge.

Last Monday, Librando filed attempted murder complaints against the two brothers and their father Alberto after the three, armed with a bolo, chased him.

Their conflict allegedly started during their younger years and worsened when Warren was arrested for drugs. The Ocañada family suspected that it was Librando who had him arrested.
