Ex-councilor’s house burned By Oscar C. Pineda
A FORMER Lapu-Lapu City councilor lost her house in Barangay Gun-ob in a fire yesterday morning.
The fire cost Dr. Dolores Abellanosa about P1 million in destroyed property.
No one was reported injured.
Duty fire officer SFO3 Warlito Amodia said Abellanosa owned the two-story house on Ceres St.
“Electrical misuse” was cited as the cause of the blaze that started at 8:20 a.m. in one of the rooms of Abellanosa’s children.
An overloaded circuit or several extension wires are examples of electrical misuse.
Firemen contained the blaze in six minutes.
The house was made of concrete and light materials, so it was easy for the fire to spread. Only Abellanosa’s house was razed, though.
Association of Barangay Councils President Cornelio Pahang, whose house is beside Abellanosa’s, said trees prevented the fire from spreading to the apartments, also owned by Abellanosa, inside the compound.
Abellanosa is a retired Cebu City schools superintendent. Upon her retirement, she ran for city councilor in Lapu-Lapu and served until the administration of then mayor Ernest Weigel Jr.
