Sonny shutout hurts Glo campaign sked

PRESIDENT Arroyo postponed her scheduled visit to Cebu until her political allies can agree on how to conduct the Lakas-CMD rallies here.

With the refusal of Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña, Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Ouano and gubernatorial candidate Gwendolyn Garcia to share the stage with Sen. John “Sonny” Osmeña, Presidential Assistant for Central Visayas Felix Guanzon was asked by Malacañang to come up with a solution.

Guanzon, in a dyLA interview yesterday, said President Arroyo has postponed to March her Feb. 27 visit and will instead conduct her sortie in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) first.

At 9:30 a.m. today, Guanzon will meet with Capitol consultant Pablo John Garcia, Provincial Board Members Gregorio Sanchez and Josefina Asirit, who will represent gubernatorial candidates Gwendolyn, Celestino Martinez Jr. and Vice Gov. John Gregory “John-john” Osmeña, respectively.

The presidential assistant said he will then apprise Ouano and Senator Osmeña of what was discussed during the meeting, before he will inform Malacañang.

Initially, Guanzon said their option would be to conduct several rallies so if some of the senators cannot attend one, they can appear in the other venues.

Promdi chairman Lito Osmeña and Talisay City Mayor Eduardo Gullas, who is running for congressman under Alayon, already expressed their willingness to have Sonny in their rallies.

While Gwen said she would not host any rally if Sonny will be included, John-john for his part said he will not join the sortie if his father will not be allowed to take part in the activity.

Sanchez said that, for their part, they suggest that Arroyo should just attend the separate proclamation rallies so there will be no conflicts.

“Para smooth ang flow. Dili magkaguliyang,” he said, adding that John-john and Gwen can host their own rallies for Lakas as well.

With this set-up, local Lakas candidates should not attend the activities organized by Ouano in Mandaue City or Tomas Osmeña in Cebu City.

This could be advantageous for Arroyo since she could have big rallies in different areas in Cebu, Sanchez pointed out. CYR
