Threats by text end in murder of consultant
By Mia E. Abellana

A CONSULTANT of a shipyard firm was ambushed after he took his lunch in Barangay Buanoy, Balamban, Cebu yesterday.

Two men on a motorcycle shot Eliodoro Pepino, 60, who was wounded below the right ear and the top of his head. He died on the spot.

PO3 Arbie Banate said Pepino had been receiving threatening text messages for the past days. Since he did not recognize the sender’s number, he merely ignored them.

Banate told Sun.Star yesterday that Pepino was about to enter his vehicle after taking his lunch at a restaurant by the highway when he was shot.

As the motorcycle approached, one rider pulled out a handgun and began firing. A shell and a slug of a .45 pistol were recovered from the scene.

No one was able to see the type of motorcycle or the plate number because the two men immediately sped off.

Search for witnesses

Banate said they are still looking for witnesses willing to give statements. He said they will be coordinating with barangay officials to convince those who were in the area during the ambush to cooperate with them.

Banate said they will be focusing their investigation on any grudges that Pepino may have had with anyone.

Pepino worked as a consultant of Cebu Asiatic Shipping and Port Services, a subcontractor of Tsuneishi Heavy Industries Inc.

He used to be a ship captain and dock master before retiring to become a consultant.

As of press time, an autopsy was still being conducted.

Meanwhile, a man was found dead in a grassy lot in Sitio Manga, Barangay Cambuhawe, Balamban last Wednesday morning.

Marcelino Madrid, 29, had four hack wounds and three gunshot wounds in the body.

He was reportedly on his way home riding his BMX bicycle when he was killed. Nobody was around when the attack occurred, police said.
