Sally Mae saves Cebu campaign
THE lone Cebuano survivor in the Purefoods Tender Juicy National Tennis Tournament didn’t disappoint her supporters as she prevented a title shutout for Cebu City yesterday at the Yñares Center in Pasig City.
Sally Mae Siso, sponsored by Osaka Iridology and Dunlop, snatched the 10-Under Unisex division championship title after overwhelming Deo Talatayod of Manila in a grueling three-set match to give Cebu City one championship in the Philippine Lawn Tennis Association (Philta) Group 2 event.
Siso got back from an opening-set debacle and totally controlled the second and third sets.
Talatayod started the game aggressively, and outlasted the Cebuana to take the opening set, 6-4.
Sally Mae, however, bounced back with vengeance in the second set as she played Talatayod toe-to-toe to subdue the latter, 6-2, in the second set.
Siso continued her inspired game in the deciding set and Talatayod finally was broken as the Cebuana crushed him with the same count, 6-2, to snare the championship diadem.
Bernadine Siso, Sally Mae’s top-ranked brother in the 10-Under Unisex division and the No.2 player in the 12-Under Boys, earlier fell prey to Manila’s Kim Saraza in the semifinal of the 12-under Boys division.
Another compatriot, Krestil Mae Buenacosa, bowed out to Manila’s Sarah Jane Lim in the quarterfinals of the 12-Under Girls division. JSV
