Local software makers to unite, face int’l challenges together
By Jessica B. Natad

CEBU’s software manufacturers will soon form an organization to help the players in the industry, especially the small and medium enterprises (SME), survive the stiff competition in the software international market.

“Unlike large software companies, SMEs do not have a ready market for their products. This is the reason why most of them do not succeed,” said Primary Software Development Corp. president and chief executive officer Mike Jurado.

“There are a lot of software makers in Cebu, but they operate alone. They have the talent and the skills in making the software but they do not have the business skills to keep their software businesses going,” Alliance Software Inc. (ASI) president Robert Cheng added.

He said uniting would enable the players to seek the help of the organization on common concerns. It will also give the industry a bigger voice.

Hijacking

E*Sprint Software president Wilson Ng said some of the reasons software companies are hesitant to join software organizations are the fear of employee poaching and client hijacking.

Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) vice president for business development and management Clarito Fruelda assured the core group of CCCI’s support for the organization.

The core group is composed of the software companies that joined the recently concluded E-Services Philippines 2004 exhibition at the Edsa Shangri-La Plaza.

The group comprises Alliance Software, Ark Data and Communications Services Inc., Asia Technologies Corp., E*sprint Software, International School for Medical Transcription, NEC Telecom Software Philippines Inc. and Primary Software Development Corp.

During the E-Servies fair two weeks ago, Primary Software Development Corp. won the Best Product/Service Award in the education category for its “3D Verve-Assemblage” software, while E*Sprint Software won first prize and first runner-up in the Best Product Award for its Local Government System and e*Banker System software, respectively.
