Sonny blames health drink
By Allan I. Varquez

SEN. Sonny Osmeña yesterday admitted that he went to the hospital last Tuesday, upon the suggestion of his brother-in-law, because of stomach pains.

He narrated over radio dyHP that he felt pain in his stomach while campaigning in Cagayan de Oro City, so he took a flight to Cebu City, where he met his brother-in-law.

The latter referred him to Dr. Delfa Sanoria, a cardiologist in Perpetual Succour Hospital.

Osmeña, who is seeking another term, suspects that a “lacto” health drink he had taken in Cagayan was the cause of his diarrhea.

No brand was specified.

“I came home to Cebu because I wanted to be put on dextrose,” said the 69-year-old senator.

His confinement at the hospital Tuesday night surprised his own son, Cebu Vice Gov. John Gregory Osmeña, who thought that his father was in Mindanao campaigning.

The younger Osmeña said his father told him when he visited him at the hospital that he suffered from loose bowel movement after drinking a “lacto” drink given to him by one of his supporters.

He said his father usually accepts food and drinks offered to him by supporters during campaign sorties.

A nurse at the information center of Perpetual Succour Hospital said the senator checked out yesterday morning.
