Abapo kocks out Indon foe By Rommel C. Manlosa
RP No.2 super-featherweight contender Bart Abapo stopped former Indonesian champion Gideon Salasa in their fight in Jakarta, Indonesia Tuesday night.
In what was supposed to be his toughest test so far, the fight became just a workout for Abapo as he relied mostly on his sharp jabs to end the scheduled 10-round duel on an eighth-round technical knockout.
Salasa became a prey to the stalking Abapo, who controlled the tempo from the onset before he broke the nose of the host fighter on the sixth round with a wicked straight.
Sensing danger, the referee ended the suffering of Salasa in the eighth when blood flowed profusely from his nose.
“There were no knockdowns but Abapo controlled the fight in all rounds before the fight was ended on the eighth,” said trainer Edito Villamor.
Abapo improved his ring record to 13-0-1 win-loss-draw, peppered with nine knockouts.
