Surban top fave
By Jade S. Violeta

TOP riders from all over the country buckle up today as they go for slots in the Philippine national team when the final heats of the 2004 Danao City Mayor’s Cup National Mountainbike competition hits the dirt roads of Brgy. Manlayag Patag in Danao City.

The top bets in the competition familiarized themselves with the treacherous route of the world-class track yesterday.

In a mini-press conference in Danao City yesterday, RP Team coach and UCI Commissar Oscar “Boying” Rodriguez named defending champion and national training pool member Niño Surban of Cebu City as the top favorite to rule the race.

Also favored to win the event is last year’s runner-up Eusebio “Eboy” Quiñones along with Asian medallist Eric Feleciano.

Quiñones won a gold in the 22nd Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam, while Feleciano gave the Philippines a bronze medal.
