NYC extends deadline for SSEAYP application

The National Youth Commission (NYC) is extending the deadline for submission of applications for delegates and national leader to March 31.

The Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program (SSEAYP) is an annual youth cultural exchange program, which aims to promote friendship and mutual understanding among youth from the Asean and Japan.

SSEAYP is open to Filipino youth aged 18 to 30 years, single, of good moral character, an active officer/member of any youth/youth-serving organization, is physically and mentally fit to travel, preferably first time traveler and must not have been a grantee of any NYC-funded international travel, has strong background of Philippine history, geography, and culture, knowledgeable in current issues of the Philippines, Japan and Asean countries, and must be a resident of the region to be represented for at least one year immediately preceding the date of application.

The national leader must be 31 years old or above, a government employe or official, physically and mentally fit to travel, of good moral character and knowledgeable in Asean and international concerns. Experience in youth-related affairs will be an advantage.

SSEAYP is a two-month program sponsored by the Japanese Government and the Asean-member countries. The participants will live together on board a Japanese luxury ship and visit the Asean countries and Japan.

These young “ambassadors of goodwill” will call on local government officials, interact with local government officials, interact with local youth, visit various social institutions and historic places, and participate in the “homestay program” where they will live with local families to experience family life in the country.

Interested applicants should submit an application letter, five copies of the SSEAYP application form, brief resume (not more than three pages), five copies of passport size colored photos in white background, letter reference from school/community/NGO where the applicant is an officer/member, barangay and police clearance, photocopy of passport (information page), certificate of good moral character and two self-addressed letter envelopes with P10 worth of stamps on each.

Complete application requirements may be submitted personally or mailed to the SSEAYP Secretariat of the National Youth Commission at second floor, Myra’s Pensionne, Escario st., Lahug. One may also call 234-1500.
