CH allots P20M for road lots

SOME P20 million is already available for the Mandaue City Government to buy properties that will be affected by the widening of P. Suico St. in Barangay Tabok.

The City Council approved Councilor Wen-ceslao Gakit’s resolution allocating the amount for the long-awaited road project.

In an interview, Gakit said the City is speeding up the process so it won’t be included in the ban against infrastructure projects implemented during the campaign period for the May 10 elections.

Gakit, chairman of the committee on budget and finance, said the amount is already included in the general fund of this year’s budget.

The P20-million allocation is only for the acquisition of lots and improvements that would be affected by the road project.

The City has yet to look for the budget for the actual road widening. It had requested for funding assistance from the National Government but got no reply.

Properties to be acquired are those from the corner of P. Suico St. and the Cebu North Road until Mabugat road.

P. Suico St. is a narrow two-way road but huge trucks and vans use it in going to and from the factories in Barangay Tabok. Residential subdivisions are also located there.
Sometimes, traffic is congested in the area because of the difficulty in maneuvering vehicles that go in and out of Tabok.

In 2001, the City asked the National Government to fund the road project estimated at P102.8 million, including the acquisition of lots.

The road construction is estimated at P52 million while lot acquisitions are pegged at P50.795 million AAG
