Luym hog raiser opens retail store

PATERNO Luym of Cebu’s Luym business clan has established his own outlet to become the retail arm of the hog-raising and meat supply business of his company, Asian Foods Corp. (AFC).

Supplier

According to wife Josephine Luym, AFC, which has been supplying meat to department stores such as Rustan’s and Gaisano Country Mall, has opened the 1,000-square-meter Island Market Square on F. Cabahug St. near Sarrosa Hotel.

She said AFC initially invested P20 million just for the stock and refrigeration equipment the store needs for fresh cow’s and pig’s meat and fresh fish.

“Specializing in meat is our niche over other department stores. Although we also have other basic commodities like soaps, shampoos, among others, selling meat is still our focus, and we can ensure our clients of the quality of our meat,” Luym said.

Naga farm

She said Island Market is also able to sell its meat products cheaper than other department stores because its mother company, AFC, raises its own hogs in its 36-hectare lot in Langtad, Naga.

Luym said AFC’s farm produces 500 hog heads, which is equivalent to 100 kilos of live hogs per month.

As for the fish, Island Market buys them directly from suppliers in Pasil and Daan Bantayan. JBN
