Talk back: No complaint filed
By Dean severo dosado

This is my reaction to the article, “Complaint seeks to weaken Durano’s position” (Sun.Star Cebu, March 9, 2004) written by Elias L. Espinoza.

The article was based on the allegation that "the complaint Dosado filed against Durano would have been free from suspicion of being politically motivated if it were filed upon the discovery of the alleged fraud or months before the election period."

For the information of the reading public, I have not filed a formal complaint against Vice Mayor Thaddeus D. Durano with the ombudsman. Our group only sought assistance to compel Liza Marie Durano, Deo’s adopted daughter-mayor, to answer our Jan. 15 letter, which her office received on Jan. 26, inform us of the total loan granted by Land Bank in favor of the municipality of Sogod, as well as, the total loan releases as of that date.

Because of her refusal to answer us, our group invoked a provision of the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards of Public Officials and Employees wherein she has to give her answer 15 working days from receipt of our letter.

We are residents and taxpayers of Sogod, thus the mayor has no reason to ignore our request. We are entitled to know the obligation incurred by the municipality because we will also pay the amortization of the loan in the form of taxes.

The mayor and the vice mayor don't care because they live in Danao City and pay their taxes there.

Deo Durano is already on the defensive. Even now, he is already afraid of his shadow. He is like Don Quixote thrusting his sword at the windmill.
