Arroyo not ideal, but best bet

WITH no “such banana as an ideal president,” Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña believes there is no better alternative than the incumbent president.

The mayor joined multi-sectoral groups in Cebu convened yesterday in launching a
coalition named “Pro-Gloria” to support the candidacy of President Arroyo.

Pro-Gloria stands for Progressive Responsive Organizations for Genuine Leadership Outstanding Reforms and Intelligent Actions.

Those who attended the assembly were all wearing “Bilib kami ni Gloria” shirts. The movement was led by Lakas Pinoy, which invited representatives from groups of farmers, fisherfolk, urban poor, women, youth, barangay health workers and transport.

The same Pro-Gloria assembly also simultaneously took place at the Clark field in Pampanga and in Apo View Hotel in Davao City yesterday.

Cebu visit

Local organizers are supporters of the Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan (BO-PK) whose chairman, Mayor Osmeña, has been openly supportive of Arroyo.

The President is scheduled to visit Cebu on Friday, a day after the campaign for local and congressional candidates starts.

Apart from Osmeña, other politicians present in the assembly at the Cebu City Sports Club are Bohol Gov. Erico Aumentado and former congresswoman Nancy Cuenco, wife of Rep. Antonio Cuenco.

Osmeña said Filipinos are going to make a crucial choice of who their leader will be in the next six years. He expressed his fears of voting for another candidate who has no experience because if that candidate wins, he will only to resort hiring advisers.

“Relying on many advisers is like having two watches and you’ll never be sure which of the two is telling the real time. There are no two economists who have exactly the same opinion. You will know who is reigning but in the end you will never know who is governing. Si Erap or Maceda?” the mayor said in his speech.

Experience

Osmeña said he will choose Arroyo, who has the most balanced education and experience.

“Like me, she has been exposed to politics as a daughter of a president. You can’t fool her (in politics) because she has seen it all,” he said. GAC
