TEAM CEBU earned a total of 12 gold medals yesterday to lead the Central Visayas Regional Collegiate Athletic Association Meet 2004.

Mark Cajutay edged out a tough field in high jump, pole vault and 110-meter hurdles while Fernando Mata ruled the discuss throw and shot put events to earn five gold medals for the Cebu-Prisaa athletics team.

Christy Sevilleno added two more golds from the 1500m and 3000m track events while the sepak takraw team chipped in one more gold when they beat Bohol-Prisaa.

Meanwhile, the wily Cebu table tennis team won all their games against sole opponent Bohol to clinch two more golds.

The men’s team made up of Emmanuel Motel Jr., Jude Gantuangko, Glendo Nayre, John Impuesto and Jonas Jacalan bested their opponents in the singles and doubles events while the women’s team composed of Gloria Belandres, Annalyn Galand and Desiree Enriquez complemented the men’s feat.

In badminton, Cebu-Scuaa’s Faye Taboada routed Joy Tagarao of Bohol, 11-6, in the deciding third-set after Tagarao came back, 11-3, in the second set in a tight match that saw Taboada take the first set, 11-2.

Meantime, Khrist Capuno and Jennifer Amahan of the University of Cebu outstyled University of the Visayas’ Peter Sarabia and Ritchie Sarabia on the dancefloor to seize the top plum in the Latin American event of the dancesport competition, while Edenberg Castillo and Joann Noel of the University of Cebu prevailed in the Standard event.
