COMDDAP. This year, Computer Distributors and Dealers Association of the Philippines, the organization of the biggest computer dealers in the industry, will stage Comddap Expo Cebu 2004 at the SM Cebu Trade Hall from July 1 to 3.

The show is held in Cebu every two years, and is expected to attract some of the biggest names in IT here.

The last two times the show was here, the exhibit space exceeded over 2,200 square meters, and attracted about 14,000 visitors.

So far, I have seen their pre-marketing materials, and this year sounds exciting, because of numerous activities designed to attract the audience.

A new attraction is the Fastest Gun in West V, meaning Visayas. This is a contest of technicians who can assemble a desktop computer the fastest.

There will be three qualifying rounds, and a championship round. The winner will take home the computer they assembled.

Winning will be based on the fastest aggregate time to assemble the computer plus assessed time penalties when inspection shows that there are certain areas not done well.
According to Bing Lastrilla, Comddap president, the world record is something like three minutes. Who knows? Maybe somebody here will break that.

Another attraction is the how-to seminars. There will be free seminars for novice computer users like how to digitally enhance photographs, how to make better presentations, how to do basic video editing, how to back up a cell phone SIM etc.

There are also regular raffles that will be conducted daily. To qualify, all the attendee has to do is go around the exhibitors’ booths and get stamps.

At the same time, the Philippine Computer Society will also hold its SynchronicITy Conference.

This is expected to attract some of the well- known speakers in Manila to come to Cebu, as well as many delegates.

On the closing, there will also be the Saturday auction. Digital cameras, computers, monitors, printers and other peripherals will be auctioned off to attendees.

The starting bid may start as low as 10 percent of the retail price, and will be bidded up. The person offering the highest bid will win the prize.

There are also special booths that will be made available to Cebu entrepreneurs who are new to the Web development space. Five booths will be made available at subsidized prices of up to 90 percent off to budding entrepreneurs to show off their wares.

More details are available at www.comddap.org, or the person may write to exhibit@comddap.org.(e-mail:wilson@esprint.com.)
