Cebuano boxers triumph in Manila
WENDEL Janiola of the Stonewall Boxing Club pulled off an overwhelming victory over veteran Danilo Peña en route to a seventh-round technical knockout win to lead three other victorious Cebuanos in the Fistorama boxing Thursday night in Taguig, Metro Manila.
ALA Boy Caesar Amonsot also scored a third-round TKO over veteran featherweight Ferdinand Sagado, while fellow ALA Boy Rock ‘n Rollen del Castillo scored two knockdowns en route to a unanimous win over crowd favorite Ricky Seniego.
Another Stonewall fighter, Mercito Gesta, won by majority decision over Rene Nival.
The dirty ring tactics of Peña proved to be his biggest mistake as the former RP champion Janiola battered him black and blue before ending his suffering with a powerful hook that sent Peña to the canvass for good.
Peña tried to headbutt, low blow, hold and shove Janiola while throwing all kinds of punches in his arsenal, but the internationally ranked Cebuano kept his cool while inflicting damaging blows to his opponent.
“After Janiola was declared winner, Peña was still at his corner and his trainers tried to revive him for more or less 20 minutes,” said Stonewall Boxing Club manager Joy Ouano. “And we just heard he was brought to the hospital because of dizziness, stomach pains and his eyes were totally closed.” RCM
