Micame: Last-minute switch?
By Rel P. Micame

REACTION. Messages from here and abroad praising and congratulating councilorial bet Marivic Maglasang, prime mover of the newly created website solely for Consolacion, continue to pour into this corner. In an e-mail from Louisiana, U.S.A., Fr. Chito Palang, who is a regular reader of this paper, said he is happy with the creation of the new website, www. consolacioncebu.com. Fr. Palang is the younger brother of reelectionist Consolacion Councilor Elenito Palang and Mindoro Bishop Antonio Palang.

Another e-mail came from a reader from Natalio Bacalso Ave. who identified himself as DMC. DMC is suggesting that the prime mover should update the website with pictures of commercial establishments and industries in the town and their products.

TEXT MESSAGE. Wil-fredo Anoos of Poro, Camo-tes Island, Cebu, and a faculty member of Cebu State College of Science and Technology, informed me that power has been restored in Barangay Esperanza. But he is asking these questions: Is the Camotes Electric Cooperative a cooperative only in name so it can be entitled to tax exemptions? If it is really a cooperative, why hasn‘t it declared dividends among its member-consumers?

SINKHOLE. Gubernatorial aspirant Vice Gov. John-john Osmeña is sinking deeper into the sinkhole because of his indiscretion. The Visayas ombudsman has recommended the filing with the court of criminal charges against the vice governor, Provincial Board Member Victor Maambong and Osmeña’s executive assistant Wilfredo “Willy” Mulla for their alleged involvement in the Perdido Lex Foundation. The bogus foundation duped the Cebu Capitol of P5 million.

Maambong admitted having sponsored a resolution accrediting Perdido Lex as a nongovernment organization. But, according to the provincial legislator, he did it in good faith upon the guarantee of Vice Governor Osmeña.

The vice governor wants Gov. Pablo Garcia and his daughter former Capitol consultant Gwen be included in the criminal investigation.

The vice governor is suspected to be involved in the importation of P3.6-billion worth of pseudoephedrine, a shabu ingredient. Although the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) found nothing to directly link the vice governor to the shipment, the government investigating agency recommended the filing of charges against his employees.

UNCOMFORTABLE. Sen. John Osmeña, the vice governor’s father, seemed uncomfortable with his position in the K4 senatorial slate. He felt that he is unwelcome by the administration party-mates. He blamed former president Fidel V. Ramos to be behind the rape charge against him and for plotting to replace him in the K4 senatorial ticket with senatoriable Heherson Alvrez.

In Cebu, the senator is not allowed to go up the rally stage of reelectionist Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña, Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Ouano and Lakas-CMD gubernatorial bets Celestino “Junie” Martinez Jr. and Gwen Garcia.

SWITCH CAMP. A highly reliable source, a mayoral aspirant in a northern Cebu town, told me Senator Osmeña is considering bolting the administration party and switching to the KNP camp. The Cebuano senator might bring his son John-john with him to the FPJ camp.

SUBDIVISION FENCE. My sister-in-law, Ms. Josefina S. Cumpio, came to me yesterday and informed me that the V & G Subdivision Homeowners’ Association is going to fence off the whole subdivision including the road lot leading to her property. “What shall I do?” she asked me.

I told her: “They cannot close that road lot beside the Rosela Ureta residence. The road lot is your right-of-way to and from your lot according to the Deed of Exchange you had executed with the subdivision owner-developer. If they fence off the road lot, you can also close the entrance road right at the boundary between the subdivision and your property. Let us see whether the homeowners will push through with the fencing of the road lot.

SCRIPTURE READING. Suggested reading of the Holy Bible for today is found in the Gospel according to St. Luke 23:1-49, “Jesus before Pilate, Herod, Sentenced to Death, Crucified, and His Death” and Phil. 2:6-11, “Has the Nature of God;” April 5 – St. John l2:1-11, “Jesus is Anointed at Bethany and the Plot against Lazarus;” and for April 6—St.John13:21–38, “Jesus Predicts His Betrayal and Peter’s Denial.”
