Pardo facility treats waste

SMALL and medium enterprises (SMEs) that can not afford to construct their own treatment facilities may avail themselves of the services of the common treatment facility (CTF) located inside the sanitary landfill compound in Inayawan, Pardo.

The facility was built by the Cebu Common Treatment Facility Inc. (CCTF), which was created through the joint venture of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Cebu Electroplaters Association.

The CCTF was conceived primarily to meet the metal finishing industry’s need for a treatment facility for its toxic and hazardous wastewater and sludge.

CTF manager Ronnel Botardo said the facility is now serving more than 30 companies in Cebu at a minimum charge of P2.50 per liter of wastewater.

“We can serve any company as long as we can treat their wastes,” he told Sun.Star.

According to a document furnished Sun.Star, the CTF uses an advanced chemical batch treatment for toxic and hazardous wastewater detoxification. This includes cyanide oxidation, hexavalent chromium reduction and acid/alkali neutralization.

Aside from being able to comply with the country’s environmental laws economically and enhancing a company’s corporate image, using the services of the CTF will enable companies to get easy access to environmental permits, Botardo said. JBN
