Red Bull wastes chance to turn tide
Luckily, Red Bull had even worse as the ball slipped through Jimwell Torion’s hands off a drive.
Red Bull had the last shot but Hightower, who scored 33 points, wasted too much time and failed to put up a decent shot after he kept the ball for himself in the last 22 seconds, settling for an unnecessary trey as time expired.
Brown, who had 38 points, had a good cut of the Realtor’s 30 first-half rebounds to edge out Red Bull’s 20. Coach Alfrancis Chua’s Realtors also converted 12 fastbreak points.
Francisco
Brown led Sta. Lucia in the first half with 15 points backed by Dennis Espino’s valuable contribution down low, which earned the big man 11 first-half points. But it was Francisco, who had 15 points and seven rebounds, who surprised Red Bull in the second quarter, where he drained nine points off the bench to cut Red Bull’s lead to 43-44 at halftime.
With Marlou Aquino, who had 12 points and four boards, anchoring the defense, and Norman Gonzales adding to Sta. Lucia’s offensive options, the Realtors kept the lead, 85-77, with seven minutes left.
Slates
The win was only Sta. Lucia’s fifth with eight losses, keeping them at the seventh spot in a tie with Shell. But more significantly, the win kept them away from FedEx and Purefoods, which both tote 3-9 win-loss slates at the last two spots – the place no team wants to be at the end of the round.
Sta. Lucia had nothing but a win in their mind after earlier suffering a humiliating 99-120 loss to front-running San Miguel, which has so far been awesome in the conference with 11 wins against a loss.
On the other hand, it was Red Bull’s second upset loss since last Saturday’s 99-86 setback to the resurging Shell, a rare slump for Yeng Guiao’s championship contenders.
