Sisos enter quarterfinals
SIBLINGS Bernardine Niño and Sally Mae Siso entered the quarterfinals of the Toby’s Philta Age-Group Tournament in Manila after they separately swept each of their four opponents.
The University of San Carlos Grade School, Niño, narrowly defeated Pampanga’s Prince Salvacion game, 6-1, 6-0, yesterday to make it to the quarterfinals of the 12-under Boys division today where he will face Kyle Cordero.
While 10-year-old Sally Mae also won by a close margin over Dian Bautista of Zambales, 6-2, 6-1, to progress to the next level where she will play against Jaybee Custodio in the 12-under Girls division.
Sally Mae excelled in the 10-under division, beating Manila’s Mark Escares but she will have to play another strong Manila player in Tin Polero in the quarterfinals today.
Another promising Cebuano player, Jacob Lagman of St. Benedict’s Learning Center, advanced to the quarterfinals of the 10-under division after vanquishing Patricia Orteza, 6-0, 6-2, yesterday.
Lagman will play against Kim Samuel today in his semifinal bid.
In the higher division, University of Cebu’s powerhouse tandem Arlo and Janjie Soquiño will contend for quarterfinals slots today when Arlo plays against Russel Arcilla in the 18-under division and Janjie faces Manila’s John Rick de Castro in the 21-under. KIP
