Sweden offers to help exporters: Philexport

A TRADE relationship between Cebu and Sweden will soon start, after the Swedish government expressed interest to support and develop the province’s export sector.

“They (Swedish government) are just waiting for advice from Philexport-Cebu on when to meet with the Swedish Ambassador to the Philippines Anika Markovic,” Philippine Exporters Confederation Inc. (Philexport) national chairman Paterno Dizon said.

The Swedish government, after conducting a seminar on the Swedish market in Manila, also offered to help Cebu-based exporters by establishing a Swedish market promotion activity in Cebu, he said.

“I am pleased to inform you that as a result of our alliances with foreign counterparts, the Swedish government is willing to extend support to your chapter and its members to develop and promote exports,” Dizon told members of Philexport-Cebu during their general membership meeting at the Montebello Villa Hotel Tuesday.

Philexport-Cebu president Allan Suarez said the Swedish government has been supporting other countries in Asia including Cambodia and Indonesia.

Dizon said Sweden’s support will cover different types of export products that are in demand in the Swedish market.

Details of the partnership between the two countries will be defined after Markovic’s meetings with the country’s export sector, he said.

In the meantime, Dizon urged Cebu exporters to make alliances with each other and venture into niche marketing to become globally competitive.

“We are no longer competitors but partners in competing with our major competitors in the global market, especially China,” he said.

Dizon also revealed the Philexport national chap-ter’s vision this year for Philexport-Cebu. These include helping the chapter source raw materials by tapping the national chapter’s network and engaging the research and development facilities and technologies of the Department of Trade and Industry and Department of Agriculture to discover new types of raw materials.

Philexport national will also bring experts to Philexport-Cebu to enhance the latter’s capabilities as a business support organization. JBN
