Shell controls last three quarters to thump Realtors
By Jade S. Violeta

THE Shell Turbo Chargers rebounded from a sluggish start and took command of the last three periods to bury the Sta. Lucia Realtors, 120-110, yesterday in the main game of the Gran Matador PBA Fiesta Conference at the Araneta Coliseum.

Shell coach Leo Austria’s deadly troika of Jameel Watkins, Ronald Tubid and Tony dela Cruz took turns in riddling the Realtors’ defense to lead the Turbo Chargers to their seventh win in 17 games and tie Ginebra at the second to the last spot.

The sophomore Tubid displayed another huge offensive performance as he knocked in 20 markers on top of two boards on an 8-of-13 shooting clip to snare the Best Player of the Game award.

The towering Watkins was all over the court and was one assist short of a triple-double finishing with a conference-high of 44 points, 22 rebounds and nine assists while the consistent dela Cruz chipped in 24 points to help deal the Realtors their 10th loss in 18 outings.

Trailing by as much as nine points in the early minutes of the opening period, the Turbo Chargers’ offense suddenly cranked up going into the second quarter to even the count at 26-all.

Two consecutive treys from Ronald Tubid gave Shell its first double-digit lead in the 6:08 mark of the second period and from then on the Turbo Chargers had the helm.

The nearest the Realtors could get was three points down, 83-86, at the start of the penultimate canto after import Derrick Brown connected with a trey.

But Shell retaliated with an 8-2 burst to regain its 11-point edge at 96-85 and the Realtors never recovered from the setback until time expired.

The losing Realtors was headed by Brown, who finished with another conference-high 44 points. JSV
