Sia, Gomez receive special Cecaba titles

CLASS 1984 slotman Sammy Sia again proved to be the best frontcourt operator in the league as he claimed his second straight rebounding title in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba).

Richard Gomez (not the actor) of Class ’89, meantime, emerged as the “Tapal King” with 2.38 blocks per game while Donald Anthony Ting of Class ’95 stamped his class as the season’s top leather thief with 2.82 steals per. Emerson Go of Class ‘91 topped the assists department with 7.81 a game.

After finishing eighth overall in scoring with 21.55 points per, Sia topped the rebounding department with 18.8 caroms a game in the recently concluded 6th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup.

The 6-foot-2 Sia normed 5.55 offensive rebounds and 12.64 defensive boards per outing.

His dominant presence in the paint got Sia into the Mythical First Five together with scoring king Chester Cokaliong of Class ’78, Joel Chan of Class ’85 and Anwar Satina and Wellington Yu of champion Class ’94.

The second team is made up of All-Star MVP Donald Anthony Ting of Class ’95, John Lo of Class 2000, Mitchel Diputado of Class ’92, Edvin Kaw of Class ’85 and Richard Yu of Class ’88.

Completing the Top 10 rebounders this season are Christopher Boltron (16.73rpg), Richard Yu (16.0rpg), David Chan (13.7rpg), Robinson Yap (12.55rpg), Joel Chan (12.3 rpg), Danny Calagos (12.09rpg), Wendell Sia (11.88rpg), Shaun Christopher Wang and Tommy Yu (11.22rpg) and Diputado (10.9rpg).

Class 2000 got its share of the limelight after nabbing the Most Improved Team award as Paul Timothy So of Class ’98 racked up the Most Improved Player trophy.

The equally coveted Sportsmanship Award went to Diputado of Class ’92 while Arnaldo Ciabo, who steered Class ’94 to its first-ever Cecaba championship, bagged the Coach of the Year title.

Class ‘94 earlier made a rare sweep of the championship round as its ace playmaker Satina won the finals MVP award while its consistent center Wellington Yu, a former Cebu Doctors College White Stallion, was named season MVP.

Three others received achievement awards made up Wilson de los Reyes of Class ‘70s-A and Yu for becoming the 15th and 16th members of the elite 1,000-point club and David Chan of Class 2002-A for the sinking 11 consecutive free throws, the longest streak this season. RCM
