Mordeno still hopefull Palaro will be staged

WHATEVER the outcome of the canvassing for a new president of the Philippines may be, Department of Education Region-7 Director Dr. Carolino Mordeno hopes the 2004 Palarong Pambansa will still push through.

After a series of meetings with directors and superintendents last month, DepEd Secretary Dr. Edilberto De Jesus announced that the Palaro will not push through because of budget constraints.

However, Mordeno cited that last year, President Arroyo intervened and allocated a budget for the 2003 Palaro, which was done in Tubod, Lanao del Norte.

Mordeno hopes that if Arroyo wins another term, she’d help push for the 2004 Palaro.

If someone else wins, Mordeno hopes the next president will also do the same since more than its being the only persevering grassroots sports development program in the country, it is also school-based. CBR
