Malazarte named new member of Cebu dance team
GRIFFINS Malazarte became the newest member of the Team Cebu City-Dancesport after an excellent performance during the opening day of the barangay-based DanceSport Trainer’s Workshop at the Cebu City Sports Center.
The Barangay Tap-tap pride Malazarte made it to the top six in the Latin Category and finished third in the Juvenile Standard category to become the newest recruit of TCC-DanceSports.
Malazarte was among the almost 400 workshop participants of the affair, which gathered together dance enthusiasts aged between five to 25 from 34 barangays in Cebu City.
Dancesport director Edward Hayco said the huge turnout of participants is proof of the success of the organizers’ aim of promoting the sport to the grassroots level – a program that started just a year ago.
Hayco also said that the purpose of holding the free barangay dancesports workshop is four-pronged.
First is to provide alternative pastime activities to the youth and divert them from the vices of drug abuse and petty crime, second is to offer participants a potential source livelihood using their dancesports skills as trainers, athletes and/or dance performers. JSV
