Gloria glows By Mila Espina
IT was a ‘glorious’ Grand Chamber Awards of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the glittering fi nale of the 2004 Cebu Business Month. The evening’s special guest of honor, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, radiant in her golden yellow terno, got a long standing ovation. “Thank you, Cebu, for making me President,” she said.
Everyone noticed the glowing countenance of President Arroyo. The Grand Chamber Award just came a day after the canvassing of the election returns ended and showed her lead over FPJ.
CCCI president Robert Go and Chamber Award chair Tess Chan led some 500 guests in honoring Cebu’s leading taipans, outstanding entrepreneurs and institutions who received their trophies from President Arroyo. CCCI past presidents Norberto Quisumbing, Jr., Raul del Mar, Geronimo Sta. Ana, Anastacio Muntuerto, Jr., Joe Ng and Carlos Co look forward to seeing Cebu “surge ahead” in trade, tourism and technology. They thought that GMA’s program of strengthening power and infrastructure in Cebu will defi nitely boost the economy.
The photos on this page show the awesome evening of ‘glamour and glitz’ as GMA shared CCCI’s “winning moments”. The CCCI Chamber Awards started as the Presidential Awards when Robert Go chaired the 75th anniversary of the chamber. In 1997, when Anastacio Muntuerto became the fi rst CBM chair, he appointed Lito Pascual to head the awards committee. From 1998 to 2003 under CBM chairpersons Munterto, Fruelda, MCE, Maderazo, Joe Ng, Carmel Salvador, this writer has chaired the Grand Chamber Awards.
In 2004, Tess Chan took over. The Grand Chamber Awards had been institutionalized to complete CCCI’s Hall of Fame.
