Wage board tackles pay hike petitions today
THE regional wage board will hear today the petitions for pay increase filed by different labor groups from the four provinces in Central Visayas.
Two labor unions are asking for adjustments of P64 and P50, respectively, on top of the daily pay.
The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) 7 will also hear the consolidated petitions of labor groups from the provinces of Cebu, Negros Oriental, Siquijor and Bohol and from eight industries today.
The wage board will convene again next week to approve the petitions, said Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) 7 Director Rodolfo Sabulao, who sits as chairman of the eight-member board.
P10 to P20
Based on the four consultations from May 20 to June 17, Sabulao said most of the groups and employers agreed to an adjustment ranging from P10 to P20 only.
The National Capital Region’s wage board approved a P20 increase.
The RTWPB was originally scheduled to take up during today’s public hearing the petitions for salary increase filed by the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) and the Alyansa sa mga Mamumuo sa Sugbo-Kilusang Mayo Uno (Ama-Sugbu-KMU) of P50 and P60, respectively.
However, Sabulao confirmed yesterday that KMU “indirectly withdrew” its petition, which it submitted before the union filed the P125 across-the-board increase, which was approved on third reading by the previous Congress.
But another labor group filed last Monday a petition for P65, in addition to the P200 daily minimum wage a regular employee from Region 7 is receiving.
Petition
Aside from saying that they did not file a petition before the RTWPB 7, Wenceslao “Wennie” Badayos of KMU-Central Visayas earlier said they will not show up in today’s hearing.
He accused the board of protecting the interest of employers and not the workers.
Sabulao said the board will hear the petitions and subject the petitioners to “clarificatory” queries by employers.
“There will be no debate,” he said.
If the board approves the pay adjustments next week, the new rate will have to be posted for 15 days before this can be implemented. CYR
