Public school ‘to rise’ in government lot near Carbon

A PUBLIC elementary school may soon rise beside the Carbon public market, after President Arroyo agreed to give a portion of a National Government-owned lot there to the Cebu City Government.

City Planning Officer Nigel Paul Villarete said the President already gave a verbal approval for the use of the lot during her visit here last Friday.

“Her approval was only verbal so maybe plans to build the school can already push through,” Villarete told Sun.Star.

Mayor Tomas Osmeña wants to build a public school in Sitio Bato in Barangay Ermita so that the Cebu City Central School and other schools nearby could be decongested.

He informed the President about his plans during her visit to Kawit Point, where they discussed the details of the Department of Tourism office and other structures that will rise in the South Reclamation Project.

The mayor said he intended to build the school beside the coastal road if the City Government will be allowed to use a portion of the National Government lot.

Arroyo agreed with the mayor on the construction of the school building after being told that the City Government will spend for it.

Aside from the school, the mayor is also considering Ermita as a possible site of a mosque and a Muslim village, but this will depend on the availability of lots. LCR
