At last, the list of actors to play in ‘Suba’

STARS.
Suba is an entry to the December Manila Film Festival. And even if it is in pure and deep Cebuano, the film will also be shown internationally. The English subtitles will solve the language problem. As the movie’s language consultant, yours truly is now going over the script for last-minute revisions. It’s a period film so expect the production design and even the dialect to reflect the styles and nuances from the 30s to the 40s.

PARTY. It was a fun-filled birthday party-cum-thanksgiving dinner that fellow Sun.Star Cebu columnist Mila Castillo-Espina threw at the White Gold House last July 16. Aside from celebrating her birthday, the occasion was also meant to thank the Lord for Sonny’s recovery after being hospitalized for four days. So who came to the party? Madame Mila’s fellow We Care officials, relatives, friends and members of the University of San Jose-Recoletos dramatics and cultural ensemble were present to honor her invitation. It was just like a reunion for some of us who were with Madame Mila in Hawaii, Utah and California in 1996. Eight years ago we marked her birthday in a beautiful park in Provo, Utah. We were then doing a series of cultural presentations in those three US states.

SPECIAL. Madame Mila’s party two Fridays ago was indeed special with the appearance of her former students who are now making it big in the entertainment world. The incomparable Anna Feji flew in from Manila, where she is based now, just to sing a medley of standard pieces for the birthday celebrant and her guests. Anna’s soulful rendition of a bonus number, This Is The Moment, was fantastic. Such talent! Jane Singco, Jessel Uy and Sakdap member Gani Villarojo also did solo numbers. Of course, the We Care bigwigs, who are always ready to sing anytime and anywhere, also impressed the rest of us with their favorite selections. The ever lovely and multi-talented ABS-CBN show host Angela Calina was the impromptu emcee that night. The occasion was basically an outpouring of love for Madame Mila whom everybody calls the live wire, the spark plug and the energy behind the activities that she organizes.

ALBUM. During the party, Angela happily informed me that she has a song, titled You Could Have Told Me Sooner, in the Jam & Jive album. Produced by Galaxy Records, it will have its tour next month in Cebu, Bohol and Ormoc. Also in the same album are the cuts Boys Don’t Cry by Margarita and On Paper by Cherry Corn Flakes. As a singer, Angela’s new name is Gella. I can see that this beautiful and multi-talented Cebuana will continue to go places, especially since her popularity has never gotten into her head. Good luck, my dear friend!
